* bcm53xx: use -falign-functions=32 for kernel compilationRafał Miłecki2022-07-081-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Northstar SoCs have pretty small CPU caches and their performance is heavily affected by cache hits & misses. It means that all kind of random code changes can affect performance as they often reorganize (change alignment & possibly reorder) kernel symbols. It was discussed in ARM / net mailinglists: 1. ARM router NAT performance affected by random/unrelated commits [1] [2] 2. Optimizing kernel compilation / alignments for network performance [3] [4] It seems that -falign-functions can be used as a partial workaround. It doesn't solve all cases (e.g. documented watchdog one [5]) but it surely helps with many of them. A complete long term solution may be PGO (profile-guided optimization) but it isn't available at this point. * kernel: support setting extra CFLAGS for kernel compilationRafał Miłecki2022-07-081-0/+4
| | | | | | | They may be used e.g. to optimize kernel size or performance. Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <rafal@milecki.pl> (cherry picked from commit 907d7d747243044f86588f0d82993e8c106cb02c)
* build: use SPDX license tagsPaul Spooren2021-02-051-4/+2
| | | | | | | | | The license folder is a core part of OpenWrt and all GPL-2.0 licensed. Use SPDX license tags to allow machines to check licenses. Signed-off-by: Paul Spooren <mail@aparcar.org> [rebase, keep some Copyright lines, sharpen commit message] Signed-off-by: Adrian Schmutzler <freifunk@adrianschmutzler.de>
* toolchain: kernel-headers: kernel Git tree mirror hashPetr Štetiar2020-11-271-0/+5
| | | | | | Allow setting of mirror hash for Git kernel tree. Signed-off-by: Petr Štetiar <ynezz@true.cz>
* build: add option to mark devices as BROKENAdrian Schmutzler2020-07-301-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | By specifying "BROKEN := 1" or "BROKEN := y" for a device, it will be hidden (and deselected) by default. By that, it provides a stronger option to "disable" a device beyond just using DEFAULT := n. To make these devices visible, just enable the BROKEN option in developer settings as already implemented for targets and packages. Signed-off-by: Adrian Schmutzler <freifunk@adrianschmutzler.de>
* build: improve ccache supportRoman Yeryomin2020-07-111-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Set CCACHE_DIR to $(TOPDIR)/.ccache and CCACHE_BASEDIR to $(TOPDIR). This allows to do clean and dirclean. Cache hit rate for test build after dirclean is ~65%. If CCACHE is enabled stats are printed out at the end of building process. CCACHE_DIR config variable allows to override default, which could be useful when sharing cache with many builds. cacheclean make target allows to clean the cache. Changes from v1: - remove ccache directory using CCACHE_DIR variable - remove ccache leftovers from sdk and toolchain make files - introduce CONFIG_CCACHE_DIR variable - introduce cacheclean make target Signed-off-by: Roman Yeryomin <roman@advem.lv>
* rules: allow arbitrary log destinationPaul Spooren2019-09-291-0/+7
| | | | | | | | Add option BUILD_LOG_DIR to menuconfig to change log destination. The mix-up of *DIR* and *FOLDER* is confusing however. Signed-off-by: Paul Spooren <mail@aparcar.org>
* Config-devel.in: rename symbol KERNEL_GIT_BRANCH -> KERNEL_GIT_REFAlexandru Ardelean2018-01-271-4/+5
| | | | | | | | | The Download/git rule will do a `git checkout <git-ref>`. So, we can use any ref we want. No need to limit just to branches. Signed-off-by: Alexandru Ardelean <ardeleanalex@gmail.com>
* ccache, samba36: fix samba.org addresses to use httpsHannu Nyman2017-02-021-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | samba.org has started to enforce https and currently plain http downloads with curl/wget fail, so convert samba.org download links to use https. Modernise links at the same time. Also convert samba.org URL fields to have https. Signed-off-by: Hannu Nyman <hannu.nyman@iki.fi>
* build: add support for automatically removing build dir contents during buildFelix Fietkau2017-01-181-0/+8
| | | | | | | | | This is used to save space on buildbot instances. If any part of a package needs to be rebuild, the whole package is rebuilt from scratch. Stamp files are preserved to allow dependency checks to work Signed-off-by: Felix Fietkau <nbd@nbd.name>
* build: don't add -fno-plt for ARCFelix Fietkau2016-02-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Curent ARC toolchain fails to build libstdc++ if -fno-plt is used. Lots of following error messages appear: ------------------->8------------------ ... staging_dir/toolchain-arc_arc700_gcc-arc-2015.06_uClibc-1.0.9/arc-openwrt-linux-uclibc/bin/ld: BFD (GNU Binutils) 2.23.2 assertion fail elf32-arc.c:2786 collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status ------------------->8------------------ In newer binutils (still in development) for ARC rewritten from scratch this seem to not happen, so once new binutils for ARC hit the street this patch might be reverted. * Kconfig: Fix missing help text in DEVEL config menuHauke Mehrtens2014-09-131-2/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch completes missing help text for some options under CONFIG_DEVEL. Provides help for BINARY_FOLDER and DOWNLOAD_FOLDER, and reduces ambiguity in the help for BUILD_SUFFIX with an example. Signed-off-by: Andrew McDonnell <bugs@andrewmcdonnell.net> SVN-Revision: 42520
* Kconfig: Various typo/grammar/line-length fixes in Config*.in filesHauke Mehrtens2014-09-131-11/+11

* config: Remove KERNEL_GIT_LOCAL_REPOSITORY optionJohn Crispin2014-06-021-8/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The GIT_LOCAL_REPOSITORY option adds the --reference argument to the git clone kernel command line, if KERNEL_GIT_CLONE_URI is set. This option is intended to speed-up the repo creation by using local objets rather than downloading it. However, a local repo can be cloned much faster by setting GIT_LOCAL_REPOSITORY directly to the local tree. In that case, git clone will bypass the normal "git aware" transport mechanism and clone the repository by copying and hardlinking objects rather than downloading it, resulting in a significant speed increase. That makes the GIT_LOCAL_REPOSITORY option pretty useless so we'll just remove it and recommand the usage of KERNEL_GIT_CLONE_URI directly.
